Dental Checkups in Oxnard, CA
Looking for dental checkups at Dentistry by Seabridge in Oxnard, California? We have your family checkups covered, whether they’re for you or your loved ones. Many people prefer avoiding going to the dentist if they can. Unfortunately, dental checkups are highly recommended. Dental associations recommend that people visit their dentists at least twice a year for checkups.
These checkups consist of a dental exam and cleanings. Checkups aren’t visits where you have tooth pain and decide to go to the dentist. They’re scheduled visits that you go to even if you feel fine. The goal of a checkup is to keep your teeth in great shape for as long as possible.
What Do Checkups Consist of?
A dental checkup consists of an exam and cleaning. During the exam, your mouth will be inspected and palpated using our tools here at Dentistry by Seabridge. We’ll assess your teeth, gums, tongue, and all other areas of the mouth for signs of infection, inflammation, or anything else. Oral cancer screening is also done.
Potential signs of cancer include irregular ulcers, masses, or areas that are white or violaceous. The presence of these things doesn’t automatically mean a person has cancer. They could be benign lesions, precancerous ones, or cancer. If something looks more likely to be benign, we’ll ask you to come back in a few weeks to check whether or not it healed. On the other hand, if it looks less likely to be benign, we’ll probably need to biopsy it.
The biopsy is sent to a pathology lab for analysis. Once we have the results back, we’ll get in touch with you. Cancer can only be diagnosed using a biopsy.
Number of Checkups
Adults need to visit their dentists at least twice a year or once every six months for dental checkups. This varies for children depending on how old they are and their dental condition. Some children will need to get more checkups than others. Neglecting checkups in children, even if they still have their baby teeth, isn’t something that we would recommend.
